Terra Luna Classic is the original Terra chain, live since April 2019 and known on chain as columbus-5. Validators run CometBFT under proof of stake, accounts are bech32 strings with a terra prefix, and contracts are CosmWasm. What made the chain distinctive was a protocol module rather than an application: a market mechanism minted and burned the native token against a dollar-denominated token, so the peg was maintained by the chain itself rather than by reserves anyone held. That mechanism failed in May 2022 when the dollar token lost its peg, and the chain was halted twice during those days before validators restarted it. Governance then created a separate network, Terra Luna, while this ledger continued under community validators with its tokens renamed LUNC and USTC.

Three properties make this history awkward and all three are specific to it. The chain stopped twice in May 2022 and resumed at a later height, so block intervals are not uniform and any series binned by day has to treat the halt as absence rather than as zero activity. The mint-and-burn swaps between the two assets were protocol operations inside a module, not contract calls, so supply changes have to be read from module state and oracle prices rather than from transfers. And the token renaming was a labeling change only: the denominations underneath never moved, so a pipeline keyed on symbols will report the wrong series while one keyed on denominations will not.

Post-mortem research is the first workload and the most common: reconstructing supply, the oracle prices the protocol acted on and the flows out of the chain, hour by hour, from records rather than from commentary. Risk modeling is the second, since this is the reference dataset for a stablecoin design that unwound in public at full resolution. Position restatement is the third, for funds that have to show what they held and when.
